Akeem Stewart attained his second qualifying standard at the National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) Pre-Commonwealth Meet when he threw 58.20 metres in the men’s discus at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, yesterday.
On Saturday, Stewart threw the iron ball 18.68m to earn selection on the Trinidad and Tobago team for the April 4-15 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. And on the second and final day of the “Last Chance” meet, the double Paralympic medallist achieved the discus standard in the very first round of the competition. He fouled in round two, and then passed on his last four attempts.
