JEREEM “the Dream” Richards has described it as a great honour to be part of the 2017 Trinidad and Tobago men’s 4x400m gold medal winning relay squad that will be awarded the Chaconia Gold medal today at the annual National Awards ceremony.
Richards, who recently signed a professional contract with worldwide sports shoe manufacturer Adidas, was part of a five-member team at the London Games in August that lifted this country to its first ever relay title. Richards also won an individual bronze medal in the men’s 200m dash.
The other members of that relay team — Lalonde Gordon, Machel Cedenio, Renny Quow and Jarrin Solomon — will also be bestowed the Chaconia Gold.
And para-athlete Akeem Stewart will receive Hummingbird medal gold for his setting a new world record and winning two gold medals — in the Men’s Javelin Throw and Men’s Shot Putt — at the World Para Athletics Championships in London earlier this year.
“I am very thankful to have accomplished this achievement because it is one of most prestigious awards to be recognised for excellence in your field and by my country.
