FROM Trinidad Express
A sizzling anchor leg performance from Lalonde Gordon propelled Trinidad and Tobago to the top of the podium at the 2017 IAAF World Championships here in London, England, yesterday.
Jarrin Solomon, Jereem “The Dream” Richards, Machel Cedenio and Gordon teamed up for a two minutes, 58.12 seconds national record run in the men’s 4×400 metres final, Gordon finishing off the brilliant team effort with a jaw-dropping 44.02 split.
United States were forced to settle for silver in 2:58.61, with bronze going to Great Britain (2:59.00).
Gordon received the baton from Cedenio in second spot, just behind United States anchor Fred Kerley. The T&T quarter-miler stayed close to his American counterpart, and looked safe for silver. But with 50 metres to go, Gordon found another gear, surging past Kerley to hand T&T the title.
